'Tha Carter V' Tops No. 1 on Billboards for Lil' Wayne
Lil' Wayne has just hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his new album, Tha Carter V.
With Logic, Tom Petty, and BROCKHAMPTON all dropping albums within the week, Tha Carter V was up up against some stiff competition in claiming the top spot of the charts. But taking the top spot isn't exactly news for the seasoned rapper. Lil' Wayne's name has seen the Billboard 200 charts over a dozen times ever since 2001 when Lights Out peaked at #16. Released under Young Money/Republic Records, Tha Carter V is the latest in this long line of chart toppers, receiving over 433 million streams last week.Coming in at almost 90 minutes, Tha Carter V is an ambitious record. And yet, Lil' Wayne manages to keep the album alive and moving with a mix of iconic features as well as some voices from his inner circle. This is definitely one of the rappers more intimate releases with Lil' Wayne performing beneath minimal auto-tune and a feature with his daughter Reginae Carter on the track "Famous." Tha Carter V also features XXXTENCACION, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, and Snoop Dogg as well as Nivea, Ashanti, Mack Maine and Reginae Carter. When it comes to current trends, few rappers get credited as a source of influence more often than Lil' Wayne. From auto-tuned club bangers to rock anthems, the guy has done it all. Let's face it, Lil' Wayne has defined a generation (or two) of rappers and is basically a chameleon of Hip-Hop. If Tha Carter V is any indication of how Lil' Wayne is fitting into the current rap scene, it's safe to say he'll be continuing to stand on the front lines of his genre.
